Ultimate Guide to Self Love Symbols

I was hard-pressed to find an actual self-love symbol, to be honest. Most stuff on the internet seems contrived. Sure there are tons of “ideas” on Pinterest, but when it comes to an adequate representation, like logographic self-love…well the pickings are rather nil.

I’m not talking about something that could be construed as self-love or something that can “remind” you of self-love. I mean, I am learning to love myself as much as the next. Sometimes it helps having a visual focus, for my manifestations.

What’s the point of a self-love symbol anyway if it’s a half-assed contrivance?

I couldn’t find any really like yah know ancient Ankira , So I made some of my own.

Most spirituality people reach into their grab bag of “new age” cliche to tell you about black tourmaline. I’m not going to do that. Yes I’ve writtin extensively about black tourmaline. But thats not what I’m about here.

I dont need to shoe horn Celtic symbols down your throat. We are all adults here…

I mean, what’s the point of symbols in general?

  • representation
  • communication
  • enhancing meaning
  • evoking emotions
  • culturally significant
  • spiritual/ religious significance
  • Socially relevant
  • Universally understandable and recognizable (maybe)

But specifically we want one directed, geared specifically towards self love.

Consider this list an offhand.

1.Sacred G

Sacred G (short for sacred Geometry. You can literally NEVER go wrong with this. It has so many household uses. Sacred G is like the Swiss army knife or the plumbus of New Age Woo. You can apply it to practically anything. Just slap an inspirational quote on it and you’re done!!!

2.I Love ME t-shirt

This is just sort of charming don’t you think? Its cute and confident and if you can pull it off not only fashionably, but with attitude I think you’ll be “the life of the party.”

3.Smiling Content Happy Heart

I dunno, this happy heart just seems sort of content in its own self-love. Its a self-love symbol that I just thought belonged here.

4.Masturbating Athenian Satyr

I mean, this is quintessential, the highest form of self-love you can get, right? This ancient self-love symbol depicts a masturbating Satyr. There is nothing more self-loving than actually pleasuring yourself sexually. Dude is staring right down the barrel of that thing.

5.Chinese Characters for Self Love

I actually just copied and pasted this from Google Translate. Just type in “Self-Love” and you literally have yourself a symbol. That’s whats so cool about Chinese characters. They look amazingly beautiful (to us westerners). The structure of logographic written language is interesting.

Be careful tattooing this on your body, though. I really did a hack job on getting the first translation I could find.

6.Heart outline with your Zodiac symbol within

I don’t know. I’m grasping at straws here trying to come up with ideas. Yea, something along those lines would be cool. I don’t know I’m just throwing things out there. Because self is sort of a specific thing, you’ll have to make it an attribute of your zodiac.

Its a cute idea, unfortunately I don’t have any images of it.

Soweee….

7.Self-Love Sigils

Learn to make Sigils. I’m not gonna explain it to you. I will write another blog on how to make sigils. But here is the one that I made for you.

8.Egyptian Hieroglyphis of Self-Love

For the concept of “self-love” in hieroglyphics, we can utilize symbols that convey the ideas of “self” and “love.” Since ancient Egyptian texts approached concepts differently from modern languages, we would approximate this idea by focusing on symbols for “love” and those that might represent the self or person.

The phrase could include:

  • A symbol for “love” which could be represented by the hieroglyph of a heart and a trachea, suggesting the concept of emotion or heart (𓏏).
  • For “self,” ancient Egyptians might use a pronoun or a determinative that indicates a person or oneself, like the symbol of a man or woman pointing to themselves (𓀀 or 𓁀), though these are not specific pronouns as used in English but can convey the concept of an individual.

Combining these ideas into a coherent hieroglyphic expression would involve creative interpretation, as direct translations for abstract modern concepts like “self-love” don’t exist in ancient Egyptian writing. The Egyptians didn’t write about psychological concepts in the way we do now, so “self-love” as a concept would be an approximation using symbols for “love” and indicators of self or individuality.

7. Adinkra Sankofa Symbol of Self Love

Although it’s commonly associated with the idea of learning from the past or going back to one’s roots, it can also be seen as a representation of self-love in the sense of understanding and accepting oneself fully, including one’s experiences and history. Embracing one’s past, learning from it, and using it to shape one’s present and future can be seen as acts of self-love and empowerment, which aligns with the essence of the Sankofa symbol.

This explanation simplifies the process and the actual composition of such a phrase in hieroglyphics would be more complex, possibly requiring additional symbols for clarity or to capture the concept’s nuance fully.

8. Keith Harings’ Self Love Symbol

Wow!! Somehow Keith Haring came back from the dead. Or one of the artists channeled his “juice” & was able to tribute this image directly into the machine that you read it on now. Congratulations.

Gratuitous Conclusion

I mean here in terms of Symbols representing self love, I think really making there be less is more here right? If you have like 1000 symbols of self-love well, that kind of just defeats the purpose entirely of having a concise symbolism.
