What is the Kybalion?

The Kybalion

Three unidentified authors released the novel “Kybalion” in 1908. It includes a theoretical analysis of the seven hermetic tenets. The principles of mentality, equivalence, vibration, polarity, rhythm, sex, and cause and effect are among the seven hermetic laws.

Ancient Greek and Egyptian hermetic philosophy is what is described in “The Kybalion”. Early on, the learner was taught a number of fundamental hermetic ideas by the tutor. The “Kybalion” was the name of this collection, but because it was created for public use, it can only fully represent some aspects of hermeticism. Many biblical scholars who have received this information over the years are aware of these teachings and allusions.

Teachings of Wisdom

A significant hermetic work is The Kybalion. There are seven hermetic principles in total. which, with awareness and comprehension, can serve as a master key throughout all periods of life. Seven hermetic principles—the principle of mind, the principle of correspondence, the principle of vibration, the principle of polarity, the principle of rhythm, the principle of cause and effect, and the principle of gender—serve as the foundation for hermetic philosophy.

The Teachings of Wisdom are a guideline based on the seven hermetic principles. The traditional initiatory route and the legacy of Western mystery schools both include the practice of this Ageless Wisdom.

Theoretical Phenomena

Since the practical instruments are only used in genuine mystery training, the Kybalion solely teaches theoretical phenomena from the perspective of the mysterious tradition. This demonstrates that the authors upheld their confidentiality pledges and were “genuine” initiates. They concealed other principles.

The Kybalion is a sophisticated work that uses transformational tools like “mental change.” Since hermetic transmutation is truly an intellectual craft. Discussion in Kybalion centers on the mental transmutation, one of the many obscure fields of hermetic knowledge.’

Transmutation

This primarily relates to the conversion of baser metals like lead into gold. Transmutation is the process of changing something from one kind of substance or form to another. As a result, “mental transmutation” refers to the practice of changing one mental state or form into another. The genuine practice of “hermetic alchemy” is this. The Kybalion serves as a manual for vivid alchemy. It discusses rules and procedures like the law of cause and effect, the hermetic axioms, and the divine paradox.

The fundamentals of hermetic initiation are the real, secret keys to transformation. The Kybalion makes reference to these.

“Where fall the footsteps of the Master, the ears of those ready for his Teaching open wide,”- the Kybalion .

Seven Hermetic Principles

A central concept in the book is that there are “seven Hermetic principles, upon which the entire Hermetic philosophy is based”. These are, as literally quoted from the book:

Mentalism

:

“The All is Mind; the Universe is Mental.”

Correspondence

Taoist symbol of the Yin and Yang embodies the above and the below
“As above, so below; as below, so above.” […] This principle embodies the truth that there is always a correspondence between the laws and phenomena of the various planes of being and life.

Vibration:

“Nothing rests; everything moves; everything vibrates.”

Polarity

“Everything is dual; everything has poles; everything has its pair of opposites; like and unlike are the same; opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree; extremes meet; all truths are but half-truths; all paradoxes may be reconciled.”

Rhythm

Rhythmic patterns portrayed in blue
“Everything flows, out and in; everything has its tides; all things rise and fall; the pendulum-swing manifests in everything; the measure of the swing to the right is the measure of the swing to the left; rhythm compensates.”

Cause and Effect

Cause and effect epitomized in black and white
“Every cause has its effect; every effect has its cause; everything happens according to law; chance is but a name for law not recognized; there are many planes of causation, but nothing escapes the law.”

Gender

“Gender is in everything; everything has its masculine and feminine principles; gender manifests on all planes.”

The Importance of Kybalion Hermetic Philosophy

When you start to understand that every external manifestation of your reality actually originates from the mind or is formed by your mind, the truth that everything is mind becomes apparent. Science has demonstrated that all of our material, seemingly solid environment is made up of energy particles and empty space, which is also energy or information. These energy particles are present in your body, although everything looks and feels as though it is made of solid matter. Perhaps our perception of the information we receive via our five senses, which deceives our awareness into thinking our world is as we believe it to be, is all that gives the appearance of solidity and tangibility to reality.

Maybe each of us is a mind or consciousness lost in an ocean of energy and information, existing in a kind of dream that has manifested. Of course, your life’s experience is still valuable and valid. With this understanding, we might be able to see how much of our experiences are the result of our thoughts. This would enable us to design the life we want.

The degree to which our own perceptions, thoughts, and attitudes affect how we experience reality is another facet of the Hermetic Principle of Mentalism. For example, a rainy day may seem negative if you have the viewpoint that you can’t go out in it. But someone else may see it in a positive light by someone else who sees the rain as beneficial to the plants. As a result, each of our own realities is altered by our mental training. It could be helpful to look for the ultimate truth in what we perceive.
